The School of Business was carved out of the Faculty of Social Sciences. It started as a Department of Business Studies in 1975/1976 academic year. In 1991, it was merged with the Department of Economics; however, the status was reversed during the 1996/1997 academic year when the Department of Business Studies was separated from the Department of Economics. The Department was upgraded to a School in the 2004/2005 academic year.
The School of Business comprises five Departments (Accounting, Finance, Management, Human Resource, Marketing and Supply Chain), one Centre (Centre for Entrepreneurship and Small Enterprise Development), and three Units (Professional Management Development Unit-PMDU, UCC Business Incubator and Entrepreneurship Education Training Unit). The PMDU offers short courses and training to all industries that require such services.
We provide a diversified portfolio of academic and professional programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels covering Accounting, Finance, Management, Human Resource, Marketing, Procurement and Supply Chain and Entrepreneurship. The School also offers a Doctor of Philosophy (Business Administration) programme and a Doctor of Business Administration programme for all business disciplines. The School of Business manages the University of Cape Coast incubator and supports students and community entrepreneurial training. These programmes are designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, competencies and character needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving global economy. We combine strong theoretical foundations with real-world application, ensuring our graduates are not only well-versed in the principles of business but are also innovative thinkers and problem-solvers ready to make meaningful contributions to society.
We are equally proud of our distinguished faculty, whose research and teaching continue to influence policy and practice, and our vibrant network of alumni who serve in leadership positions across various sectors — testimony to the quality and impact of business education from the University of Cape Coast.
